The beams that form connections between rafters in a roof , truss or at any other height higher than the floor to ensure that the structure is sturdy and stable at foundation level is referred to as tie beam.

The tie beams are usually installed at the roof truss level and floor level as well as an edging. They are not able to support any load that is vertical, like walls and so on.

Sometimes, tie beams function in the form of a strap beam, which takes on all the stress due to the tilt that the horizontal member (Columns) in the foundation.
